EPQ Planning
My Aim with my EPQ is to study and analyse the evolution of car advertising that was showcased on Televisions between 1955 and 2020. My final aim is to produce a video essay documenting my findings, analysing the adverts, and reaching an informed conclusion as to why car advertising has changed over the years shifting from being focused on information and practicality to stylised videos focused more on spectacle and visual without showing much information about the vehicle itself.
The videos I have chosen to analyse for far are;
- 1959 Mini Cooper advert
- 2020 Mini Countryman
- Skoda Fabia Cake Advert and its " made of meaner stuff" follow up advert
- Kevin Hart Hyundai Superbowl Ad
- 2020 Ford Puma Adverts
- Ford Focus Active Butterfly advert
- Peugeot 2008 (See The City Differently) International Advert
- Peugeot 205 1986 Advert
- Peugeot 206 Advert
- Mitsubishi ASX Advert
- BMW MK6 Matrix Advert (Banned in UK)
- Ford Street KA (Banned in UK by ASA)
- 1983 Ford Sierra
I have chosen these adverts as they are spread out across the Decades and showcase a variety of different models and car types ( Hatchbacks, Estates, MPV's, SUV's, Coupes, Sedans). They are also from a variety of companies to showcase how across the board car advertising has changed and I have also chosen a few of the same companies adverts but from different decades to show how the company has changed its advertising as well.
My objectives are to discover how car adverts have changed over the years, why they have changed, where I think they'll be going in future, and whether I believe they are still effective in today's society
